Focusing of spherical Gaussian beams.

چکیده
Simple procedures and formulas for tracing the characteristics of a spherical Gaussian beam through a train of lenses or mirrors are described which are analogous to those used in geometrical optics to trace repeated images through an optical train.

Aberrated lenses for generating flattened laser irradiance.
Expressions for describing Gaussian beams focused by a lens with spherical aberration have been derived. Numerical results show that, when the coefficient of the spherical aberration is negative, one can obtain flattened laser irradiance at two positions along the focused field. The larger the coefficient of negative spherical aberration, the larger the flatness is. The effect of the Fresnel nu...
متن کاملEstimate of tilt instability of mesa-beam and Gaussian-beam modes for advanced LIGO
Sidles and Sigg have shown that advanced LIGO interferometers will encounter a serious tilt instability, in which symmetric tilts of the mirrors of an arm cavity cause the cavity’s light beam to slide sideways, so its radiation pressure exerts a torque that increases the tilt. Sidles and Sigg showed that the strength T of this torque is 26.2 times greater for advanced LIGO’s baseline cavities—n...
متن کاملCollapse dynamics of super-Gaussian Beams.
We investigate the self-focusing dynamics of super-Gaussian optical beams in a Kerr medium. We find that up to several times the critical power for self-focusing, super-Gaussian beams evolve towards a Townes profile. At higher powers the super-Gaussian beams form rings which break into filaments as a result of noise. Our results are consistent with the observed self-focusing dynamics of femtose...
متن کاملElectromagnetic field calculations for a sphere illuminated by a higher-order Gaussian beam. II. Far-field scattering.
A previously developed theoretical procedure for determination of electromagnetic fields associated with the interaction of a higher-order Gaussian beam with a homogeneous spherical particle is used to investigate the effects of incident beam type on far-field scattering. Far-field scattering patterns are calculated for (0,0), (0,1), and (1,1) mode Hermite-Gaussian beams and for the helix dough...
متن کاملDynamically Focused Gaussian Beams for Seismic Imaging
An initial study is performed in which dynamically focused Gaussian beams are investigated for seismic imaging. Focused Gaussian beams away from the source and receiver plane allow the narrowest and planar portions of the beams to occur at the depth of a specific target structure. To match the seismic data, quadratic phase corrections are required for the local slant stacks of the surface data....
